Reference Navigation Notices 15-43 and 15-50.
This notice is given to mariners to provide an update on the closure status of the Walter F. George Lock, Chattahoochee River Mile 181.5. Due to extensive structural damage to the lower gates, the lock will remain closed for the foreseeable future due to lack of funding to make the needed repairs.
Further notice is given that the George W. Andrews Lock, Chattahoochee River Mile 153.2 is also closed due to extensive sedimentation in the lock approach and around the lock gates. The sediment prevents movement of the lock gates. This lock will also remained closed for the foreseeable future due to lack of funding to remove the sediment.
Mobile District will continue to seek funding to make the needed repairs at these facilities. This announcement does not affect the Jim Woodruff Lock located downstream.
Questions or requests for information may be directed to the ACF Project Management Office at (334) 232-4542.
