SHOALING CONDITIONS

RC BYRD LOCKS AND DAM

OHIO RIVER, MILE 279.2


Reference Notice to Navigation Interests 18-10, dated 16 March 2018. Due to shoaling conditions and receding water levels on the Ohio River, notice is given that on 26 March 2018, Amherst Madison Inc., contractor for U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Huntington District, will commence emergency dredging in the lower approach channel at Robert C. Byrd Locks and Dam, Ohio River, mile 279.2.

The contractor's floating plant will consist of the M/V LUCEDALE, the M/V ANDI MULLENS, one barge mounted crane, and two material barges. The vessels will be monitoring marine channel 13. The work will be performed between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 12:00 a.m. midnight, seven days a week.  The work is anticipated to be complete on or about 04 April 2018.  The dredged material will be placed in-water downstream of the dam. 

The contractor's equipment will be moored at the worksite during non-working hours and will be lighted according to regulations.

Mariners are urged to transit at their slowest safe speed to minimize wake and proceed with caution after passing arrangements have been made.

Notice is given that due to recent flooding and receding water levels on the Ohio River, shoal conditions exist in the lower approach channel at Robert C. Byrd Locks and Dam, Ohio River, mile 279.2.

Mariners are urged to check the channel depth surveys, monitor lower gage readings, and contact the lockmaster via marine radio on channel 13 for more information.

An additional notice will be issued containing dredging information for this site when available.
